Slimming lip gloss hits British beauty shelves this spring

Huge Lips Skinny Hips, the lip gloss that includes an appetite suppressor, brings new meaning to the old adage ‘a moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips’.

The gloss includes the active ingredients Hoodia Gordonii extract and vitamin B3, according to press reports.

The Skinny Hips half of the product is attributed to the presence of the Hoodia Gordonii extract, a plant native to Southern Africa and found in a number of diet and weight loss supplements due to its appetite suppressing activity.

And it is the vitamin B3 in the formulation which reportedly helps stimulate blood flow to the lips making them appear fuller.

Manufactured by Purple Lab, the product range will retail in SpaceNK stores later this spring.

Although new to the British market, the product is not the first of its kind.

Slenderize with shine

Across the pond, Too Faced released its Slenderize range in January last year, just in time for consumers to keep up their New Year’s beauty resolutions after the excesses of the party season.

The Slenderize range was released in collaboration with Fuze, a Coca Cola-owned manufacturer of energizing and slimming drinks.

The range includes three flavours, mirroring Fuze's beverage range, and has the same active ingredients such as chromium, L-Carnitine and Super Citrimax.

The chromium improves the amount of energy received from food and the L-Carnitine is an energy boosting amino acid, said Fuze.

Super Citrimax, a hydroxycitric acid extract, is one of the most widely used dietary ingredients and is thought to inhibit fatty acid and cholesterol synthesis.

Kenya lowers cosmetics tax to encourage women to be beautiful

The Kenyan government has decided to lower the rate of tax on cosmetics products as a means of encouraging women to take care of their appearance.

In the annual budget speech for 2010 – 2011 given by the minister of finance Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, it was announced that the rate of excise duty on cosmetics and skin care products would be reduced from 10 per cent to 5 per cent.

In his speech Kenyatta said that the move was “in the recognition that beautiful women are the face of a healthy society.”

The minister also proposed to remove excise duty on jewellery products as a means of making these products more accessible to Kenyan women, ‘and even men’.

The Kenyan market for cosmetics has enjoyed strong growth in recent years, particularly among more affluent consumers who buy up the more expensive international brands that dominate store shelves.

What "LOVE" smells like. Contest!!!


Love... What is it? I know for a fact that I love my baby more then anything in this world, much more then it is even possible to describe with words. But can it be described with a smell?
Usually I work on our skin care products with my team but this time we've decided to engage our customers to design a "smell" for our new product. It is going to be a lotion for Baby and Mom at the same time, soft and gentle, hydrating and protecting, lotion called "Love Lotion N9". So we need your help and input in describing what "Love" smells like, to you, in terms of "ingredients" that can be incorporated into a bottle and manufactured using natural source. Can it be chocolate?... Perhaps Roses? Maybe a mix of both? Well, at least that's how I would describe my love.... Maybe your love is fruity...? Let us know.

I know this task sounds a bit tough. But the reward is worth it. All you have to do is:

1. Post your comment here, below this post and describe your "love smell". There will be two winners. One winner will be chosen randomly, so everyone has a fair chance. What smell we will go with, will depend on number of responses/ choices and complexity of creation of that smell. But the winner of the winning "smell" will receive a full size of "Love Lotion N9" when it comes out. The random chosen winner will receive a product of their choice from our skin care line.
